Effective written communication is essential in public administration as it enables policymakers, administrators, and scholars to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences. My background in military writing provided a strong foundation in concise, grammatically correct, and well-organized writing while emphasizing clarity, factual accuracy, and proficiently. The MPA program has significantly bolstered these skills and enhanced my ability to communicate effectively- particularly in structuring arguments, integrating data-driven analysis, and tailoring my writing to different target audiences across various  formats.
 

The Strategic Estimate of the Baltic Region was completed outside the MPA program as part of my military professional development through the Command and General Staff College. This document represents a formal military strategy analysis prepared for senior leadership and policymakers. While the structure and expectations of military writing differ from academic and policy writing, I applied MPA coursework lessons to refine my approach – particularly in developing well-organized arguments, weighing policy alternatives, and ensuring clarity in high-level decision-making documents. This strengthened my ability to engage diverse audiences through effective communication while applying lessons learned in the MPA program to enhance a professional document. The combination of academic and professional writing experiences has strengthened my ability to effectively communicate policy and strategy at multiple levels of decision-making.
