Demonstrate an understanding of the normative foundations of public administration and the ability to apply that knowledge to a range of settings.

Demonstrate the ability to engage in normative and ethical reasoning.
The first artifact, "From Service to Civilian: Redefining the Transition Assistance Program (TAP)," examines the evolution of TAP in aiding veteran reintegration. This real-world policy example exemplifies the necessity for adaptation to societal changes while emphasizing the importance of continuous evaluation and policy transformation to maintain effectiveness. Policymakers engaged in stakeholder collaboration and ethical responsibility, adjusting TAP to better support veterans. This reflects my ability to apply public administration theories to policy implementation and reform, fulfilling Performance Objective 1.
The second artifact, "The Nature of Politics and the Ethic of Responsibility," explores ethical dilemmas in political leadership according to the scholar, Max Weber. By applying Weber's Ethic of Responsibility, I assess the role of the Called Politician, the necessity of balancing moral conviction and pragmatic decision-making, and the ethical trade-offs inherent in governance. By engaging in and applying ethical reasoning to a challenging situation, I demonstrate an ability to navigate ethical complexities and anticipate unintended policy consequences to achieve both Performance Objectives 2 and 3.
