"Commodity Analysis: Cotton" from ALCE 5524 serves to achieve standard one by demonstrating my ability to gather, select, and interpret data from various sources to analyze the economic impact of U.S. cotton exports. Through trade statistics, legislative policies, and market trends, I translate complex statistics into meaningful policy insights, highlighting how legislative support, such as the Farm Bill, influences global markets. The paper comprehensively explains cotton's strategic role in U.S. trade and foreign policy by carefully selecting and interpreting this data.
The next artifact, "Typhoon Mawar: Disaster Recovery Analysis," applies quantitative and qualitative data analysis to enhance decision-making in disaster recovery efforts. By examining local and federal government recovery statistics, I provide data-driven insights on response effectiveness, including federal assistance programs and interagency coordination. The analysis highlights the challenges with disaster recovery while offering data-driven sites and recommendations to inform policy decisions to enhance recovery outcomes and mitigate future risks.
"An Organizational Analysis of CPAP at Virginia Tech," showcases the ability to select and apply analytical frameworks to evaluate CPAP's organizational effectiveness. Central to the evaluation of CPAP's mission and long-term sustainability is utilizing SWOT analysis, stakeholder mapping, and strategic goal alignment assessments. The study incorporates various institutional data and accreditation standards through comparative benchmarking to provide qualitative assessments. By leveraging these structures methodologies, the paper offers actionable insights into strategic improvements, demonstrating the ability to apply appropriate models and tools to analyze a public administration concern.
“Data Visualization: The Appalachian Region’s Contribution to Defense,” demonstrates my ability to locate, interpret, and translate data into meaningful insight for public policy. Drawing data from governmental reports, censuses, and academic studies, I critically selected and synthesized regional enlistment, veteran population, and demographic data to analyze Appalachian states’ overrepresentation in military recruitment. By translating raw statistics into clear visualizations I make complex trends more accessible to policymakers, scholars, and community stakeholders. This analysis not only sheds light on the socioeconomic and cultural drivers of enlistment, but also supports Performance Objective 2 by offering data-informed insights that can shape future recruitment policies and regional development efforts. Through this work, I demonstrated how targeted data analysis can elevate underserved voices and inform more equitable, evidence-based decision-making in public administration.
